Things you should be doing this winter

Now that the autumn is upon us, the days seem too cold and the days too short which means it's time to start thinking about ways to protect our hair from the damage that the winter elements can cause.

During the winter months, it's a great idea to treat your hair once a week to a deep conditioning treatment. This will help to replenish the moisture, which tends to get depleted from things such as the dry heat in your apartment and the cold winter air. I recommend something like the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Moisture Lock One Minute Mask or Bumble & Bumble Quenching Masque. These products are quick and easy ways to lock moisture back into your hair. www.huffingtonpost.com

Regular trims are a great way to keep your hair in good health during the winter months as well -- every six to eight weeks, just get a light dusting of the ends to help reduce the chance of dry, splitting ends.

To prevent breakage or other damage, avoid blow-drying and brushing hair when wet because those locks are most delicate when waterlogged. If strands are really parched, comb hair with a few drops of olive oil and a wide-tooth comb after showering.

ICON: Ellen Von Unwerth

Top of our curlicon list is Ellen Von Unwerth. Her trademark ice white, springy ringlets have becomes as synonymous with her signature style as her noir erotica. We have a sneaky feeling her naturally curly locks are the reason why many of her images have been infused with big, bouncy ringlets and vintage waves.

We aren't surprised Ellen was a model for years before becoming a top fashion photographer & director, I mean... look at that style!

Ellen Von Unwerth's instagram is packed with style inspiration and 90's haircons!  We love her work, the mix of beautiful strong women looking sexy & erotic makes you want to look at the images over & over. Her sensitivity towards her models and their ferocious personalities keeps her images full of life and helps her to connect with the girls.

"I want to show a part of life, something about culture, about women I love, and I want to share it with the world. As a woman, I really want them to feel good about themselves, be emancipated, and above all not be afraid to have fun." Ellen Von Unwerth

Curl Icon Jerry Hall!

Jerry Hall has naturally curly hair and always looks like a mermaid goddess!

Her trademark long blonde hair and height of six feet quickly made her one of the most visible and photographed models during the 70's and 80's.

Here are some quotes and tips from Jerry herself:

'My mother and my sisters - five girls - were crazy about glamour and Hollywood movies. I styled myself on Veronica Lake and Marlene Dietrich.'

‘I only wash my hair once a week and I give it a treatment each week with olive oil. The olive oil really helps because it makes it shiny and strong, and I think it helps to put the curl in. It adds a little curl and a bit of body. When your hair is in good condition it curls easier and I like that.’

Early this year Jerry cut her hair for charity:

Are Pony Tails Bad For Your Hair?

Bungee's!

Bungee's!

Scrunchie's!

Scrunchie's!

Excessively tight ponytails, where the hair is pulled with extreme tension from the hairline to the base of the pony, can increase the risk of tension alopecia (a hair loss condition).

Avoid the potential problem by wearing looser ponytails or by taking a break in between wearing the style.

We're not saying “never” just not all day or to tight.

1.  Always remove ponytail before going to bed

2.  Ponytails Can Cause Headaches

3.  Ponytails Should Always Be Secured With Hair Friendly Elastics Or Clips

We love Bungees & Silk Scrunches!

Donna Summer

Donna Summer is one of our curl icons. We love her big curls alongside her fabulous style.

The Queen of Disco was not only famed for ruling the charts in the disco era but also for her voluminous curly hair. She embraced her curls and made them sexy. Her daughters were also lucky enough to inherit her beautiful curls.

Here are some of our favorite of her curly dos.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Organic Apple Cider has been used as a natural hair care product for a long time. The acidity is close to that of natural hair and is a good conditioner, cleansing agent and germ killer.

Four ways that Apple Cider Vinegar may help your hair:

1.     Tightening the cuticle

2.     Helps to lock conditioner into your hair

3.     Removes shampoo residue

4.     Itchy scalp relief

5.     Home remedy for head lice
