A loose, “S” shape curl pattern is commonly a combination of very loose curls and waves. This hair type is prone to becoming straighter when the hair is dry. This is because the curl pattern stretches out and the curls becomes lost.
How to keep healthy: The best tip for this hair type is to have regular cuts and internal deep moisturizing treatments.
Top Tip: Avoid using heavy moisturizing shampoos and conditioners with 'volumizing' treatments in as this will weigh down wavy and lightly curled hair.
A consistent and defined “S” shape curl pattern. It’s a bold coil shape that extends from roots to ends. This curl pattern can become frizzy and tighter because of external reasons such as weather, shampoo and conditioner choices and a shorter cut.
How to keep healthy: Classic curls need consistent hydration to keep the curl bouncy. Use a PH balance shampoo and use a natural deep moisturizing treatment once every two weeks.
Top Tip: Drink lots of water! This curl type is the healthiest of all the curls so keep your boyd healthy and happy through hydration will keep your locks happy.
A small, corkscrew-like curl pattern throughout the hair. These tight ringlets tend to be finer and lighter in weight. The hair shaft tends to expand and can lose its tight “S” shape pattern, appearing dense, kinky and unmanageable.
How to keep healthy: Your care regime will need to be focused on feeding and moisturizing your locks. Use a shampoo and conditioner which is moisture infused and get regular natural deep conditioning treatments.
Top Tip: Gather your hair with a loose tye (do the pineapple) before bed so that ends don't break off in the night and use your fingers as a hairbrush.
An angular zig-zag from roots to end. The Z pattern is so tight it can cause curls to shrink up to 75% of the hair’s actual length. This hair type is prone to dehydration and damage because it is more difficult for the cuticle to hold moisture. This hair type is very delicate and de-tangling and using heated styling products can cause immediate breakage and damage.
How to keep healthy: These curls need to be handled with care. Constant moisturizing and natural deep conditioning treatment is imperative to keep the bounce in these curls. Heavy oils and waves can also cause damage to this hair type, stick to natural coconut oils and heavy moisture conditioners.
Top Tip: When sleeping use a silk pillow to sleep on, it will stop damage and breakage of delicate curls. Let hair dry naturally and comb with fingers rather than a hair brush for healthier curls.
